Matches Between KKR and SRH in IPL

SRH vs KKR games are exciting to watch. Some of the toughest matches were won only by several wickets taken or runs scored. The closest match to date occurred on the 18th of October 2020 with a tie broken by a Super Over.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders game ran to 163 runs (each side) and appeared as if it might be the very first tied match between the two competitors. As the game came down to the super over, Hyderabad scored two runs but Kolkata’s bowler Lockie Ferguson scored two wickets in that Super Over. Kolkata came up to bat and Eoin Morgan scored a single run at-bat, winning the game by one point when neither he nor the next batsman lost a wicket.

Another game between the two teams to remember is the one that took place on April 30th, 2017 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. KKR won the toss and decided to bowl. Unfortunately for the Knight Riders, Hyderabad’s first Batsman David Warner took the opportunity and ran. We mean ran in the most literal sense, scoring 126 runs and allowing the Sunrisers to steamroll Kolkata with 48 runs.

A spectacular victory was scored in favour of KKR when Kolkata and Hyderabad clashed for the very first time on the 14th of April in 2013. KKR won the toss at the beginning of the match and decided to bat. Gambhir, Kallis, and Morgan ran away with the lead ending in a victory by 48 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR IPL team

Founded in 2008, in the IPL Kolkata Knight Riders enjoys the biggest fan base of all the eight IPL teams. They have consistently boasted a top 5 performance in the Indian Premier League, winning in 2014 and 2012. Boasting an impressive roster that included the likes of Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell, the team has a reputation for being stacked with powerhouses.

Kolkata Knight Riders hold the record for the longest winning streak by an Indian team at 14 matches. They hold the record for the most consecutive wins in IPL at 10, broken during the 2014-2015 season. They’re also a top contender for the most wins in IPL, with KKR holding the third-place slot at 98 wins, just below the 118 and 106 of 1st and 2nd, respectively.

KKR is a powerhouse, but a team is nothing without its top players. Andre Russell is the star player of the KKR and to us that title isn’t just for show, being one of two players to achieve both a century and hattrick in the same T20 match. He achieved this in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League. Andre Russell also holds the record for the highest strike rate in the IPL at 182.33, with a reputation for knocking the balls clear out of the park.

Sunil Narine is another star player for the KKR on the opposite side of the field. The ace-bowler is an integral part of the team’s ongoing strategy. He boasts a record shared with Lasith Malinga as the only two bowlers to pick four or more wickets in an inning seven times over their career.

Team captain Dinesh Karthik is an expert finisher with the experience to back him up on the field. His presence alone raises the level of play to new heights.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH IPL team

A team to remember in the IPL seasons, Sunrisers Hyderabad was founded in 2012 and forming a fierce rivalry with KKR in 2013, is now a force to be reckoned with in the Indian Premier League.

Similar to KKR, SRH has repeatedly earned a spot in the top five in terms of performance, coming in 1st in 2016. Much of their staying power can be attributed to the star player, David Warner, but they also owe a lot to their fans. The fan-base behind the SRH, self-identified as “The Orange Army”, gives the squad immense support no matter the challenges they face.

With several young additions to the team, SRH have consistently displayed an ability to learn from their mistakes and improve, winning in their third year of the IPL. The team, however, is also no stranger to scandals and controversy. David Warner was the captain from 2015 to 2018 when he was banned for a year after an infamous ball-tampering scheme. Kane Williamson replaced him as captain until 2020 when David Warner returned to the role.

Captain or player, David Warner is an ace in the hole for SRH. He’s responsible for their decisive and unexpected victory in 2016, for scoring 692 runs in 2019, as well as holding multiple records including the most fifties and highest opening partnership with Jonny Bairstow. The ace spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, is the answer to Sunil Narine of the KKR. An exceptionally skilled bowler, despite not holding any records of his own, Rashid Khan is extremely consistent and well-rounded and talented as a batsman.

Kane Williamson stands on a skill level on par with David Warner, enough to lead the team during his absence. Now that he is no longer the captain, he is serving as a star batsman.
