Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR IPL team

Kolkata Knight Riders represent the city of Kolkata, home ground of the oldest cricket stadium in the country, Eden Gardens, which can seat up to 68,000 fans. When the IPL started in 2007, KKR was one of the eight teams chosen to play in the tournament the following year. They finished in sixth place.

The team is known for having ruthless and destructive batsmen and bowlers. Shubman Gill is one of their best-known batsmen for the 2020 season. He carries the second-highest career average behind Chris Lynn, which is 33.53. Gill also holds the record for the most runs on his team, which is 440. He also won player of the game in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, winning by seven wickets.

One of their iconic players when they first started out was Sourav Ganguly. He led the team in the 2008 and 2010 IPL seasons. Eoin Morgan is their most recent captain, who got the role after the previous incumbent Dinesh Karthik handed it over in October 2020. The KKR ended the 2020 season in fifth out of eight teams, with seven wins and seven losses.

Another star player is Varun Chakravarthy. He has an excellent run count of 356, but what makes him a top player for the team is the number of wickets he’s taken, which is 17. Pat Cummins is close with 12 wickets but still trails Chakravarthy.

In the IPL Kolkata Knight Riders are two-time champions, winning in 2012 and 2014. As of 2020, they’ve won 99 matches and lost 93. In addition to winning twice, they also made it to the playoffs in 2011, 2016, 2017, and 2018. KKR’s overall record is 81 wins and 78 losses.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals represent the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. The RR home ground is located at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The stadium is considered one of the best in India after the renovation it went under in 2006. Like KKR, RR played in the first IPL tournament, which they ended up winning.

RR is known for being a controversial team in the IPL. In 2013, the police in Delhi caught three cricketers involved in a betting scandal. They were arrested on charges of spot-fixing. Because of this arrest, the team wasn’t allowed to participate in the 2016 and 2017 tournaments, which angered the other players and disappointed the fans. Luckily, in 2018, the group returned to the tournament scene.

One of Rajasthan Royals’ best players was Ajinkya Rahane. He’s known for having scored 2705 runs, which is exceptional. For the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he took over the role of captain. Rahane was eventually replaced by Steve Smith in late 2019 due to the team’s poor performance. He was traded to the Delhi Capitals in 2020.

Sanju Samson is definitely the star of the 2020’s IPL season. Samson ended the season with 375 runs - more than any other player on the team. Jofra Archer also performed brilliantly, taking more wickets than anybody with 20.

Rajasthan’s most recent season started strong, but the team didn’t finish well. In the 13th edition of the IPL Rajasthan Royals came in last out of the eight teams. Nonetheless, the best is yet to come for them. In addition to their 2008 win, they also made it to the playoffs in 2013, 2015, and 2018.
