Legends say that kabaddi originated some 3000 years ago, and every Indian boy has played kabaddi at some point in their life. However, kabaddi - which is now a professional sport, is popular not only among Indians but across most parts of South Asia – Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh.

The word “kabaddi” is said to come from the Tamil-language “kai-pidi”, meaning “to hold hands”. Kabaddi is a contact sport. Considered the “the game of the masses”, in South India it is also known as Warriors’ game.

Nowadays, kabaddi is a synthesis of the games played in various forms across the different parts of the Indian subcontinent.

India made kabaddi popular as a competitive sport, introducing the game at the Indian Olympic Games at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1950, the All-India Pro Kabaddi Federation was established, and kabaddi was played as a demonstration sport at the inaugural 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi. Thus, kabaddi turned into a legitimate international competition and was added to the Asian Games' program at the beginning of 1990.

As of 2014 the game, which was once played in the Indian villages, has its own professional-level kabaddi league, known as Pro Kabaddi (PKL). KPL has witnessed impressive growth over the past seasons and we, at 10CRIC India, are here to offer you the best of it to bet on.
