Gujarat Titans are one of the two new franchise cricket teams in the Indian Premier League that will have their debut at the IPL 2022. The Titans were founded very recently, in October 2021, and are based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The team plays its home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, the small neighbourhood in the city's northwestern area. The stadium has been in use since 1983, but after its 2020 expansion, it became the biggest stadium in the world, with a capacity of 132,000.
What you need to know about GT
CVC Capital Partners, a private equity and investment advisory company from the UK is the Gujarat Titans owner. The IPL Governing Council issued a tender for the newly founded Gujarat team in August 2021. As many as 22 companies expressed interest in purchasing the team, but with the high price, only a couple of them moved forward. In the end, CVC Capital Partners managed to buy the rights to the team for Rs 5,625 crore.
The Gujarat Titans team coach is Ashish Nehra, a former professional cricketer who played in all formats of the widely popular game. He retired in 2017 after playing for almost two decades for the national team of India. He also played for numerous clubs, including the Chennai Super Kings, the Delhi Daredevils, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians. After retiring, he coached the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Despite the all-star team that we’ll discuss in the following few sections, not much is expected from this novel team. It’s because they are new, and the squad they have at the moment is entirely new as well, so no one knows what tactics and strategies they will use.
All the players have long professional careers, but they have never played together before, so no analysis could show us what kind of performance they are likely to offer. However, this will also allow the new GT squad to pass under the radar while the more established teams stay in the spotlight. So, expect to be surprised, as the Gujarat Titans will undoubtedly give us a show at the very least.Join Now Bet Now
GT Moves During the IPL 2022 Auction
The GT IPL auction 2022 was pretty interesting for this exciting new team. The entire auction was impressive as it involved ten teams instead of the usual eight.
The two added teams are the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants, who will participate in the IPL for the first time. Both looked to make a big entrance, so they went hard at the auction.
GT quickly managed to sign Hardik Pandya, the notable all-rounder who played for the Mumbai Indians for several years, before he was released ahead of this auction. The Gujarat Titans signed him for Rs 15 crore and made him the team's captain.
The GT auction 2022 was also successful for the team as it managed to sign the Afghani star spinner Rashid Khan. They paid the same amount as for Pandya. Rashid Khan is a very young cricket player, but he has already played around 300 T20 matches, and in 2019, he became the youngest cricketer to be a captain in a Test match.
To round up the star power for the squad, GT managed to get Shubman Gill for Rs 7 crore. He had a great season with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021.

GT Squad for IPL 2022
As you can see, the GT team for 2022 is more than ready after the recent auction. The team purchased as many as 20 players, and some of the most crucial players in the group are Jason Roy, Loki Ferguson, and Mohammed Shami.
Besides the GT captain for 2022, Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan, the young world-class spinner from Afghanistan, who were signed earlier on, these three are the team’s top picks.
Jason Roy is England’s big opener, Mohammed Shami is the notable fast Indian bowler, and Loki Ferguson will bring some serious attacking pace.
The GT squad for 2022 will be even stronger as the team made sure to sign up fantastic overseas players but didn’t manage to do the same with the domestic players.
